Prof. Thoko Kaime is the Project Leader for the Tanzanian-German Centre for Eastern African Legal Studies (TGCL). The Centre was established in September 2008. It offers aspiring lawyers and law students from the Partner States of the East African Community a structured LLM and PhD study programme with the goal of qualifying them for leading positions in the region. The programme is conducted at the University of Dar es Salaam School of Law, in close cooperation with the Institute of African Studies and the Faculty of Law, Business and Economics, University of Bayreuth. TGCL is one of the Centres of African Excellence, funded by the German Foreign Office through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
The Tanzanian-German Centre for Eastern African Legal Studies together with the Heidelberg Center Latin America (HCLA) organises three times a year a Legal Talk Series about current issues on the planet, for example climate change litigation, human rights and water resources.
The series, held online, bring together students and researchers from East Africa, Latin America and Germany. This innovative academic forum involves scholars from the Global South uniting excellent researchers and scholars from at least three continents.
