PhD Club

Young scholars pursuing their PhD on African legal studies and or supervised by Prof. Thoko Kaime have merged and found the so-called PhD Club. The club has given itself a structure of informal and formal meetings alternating every second week. The formal meetings consist of two: progress presentations by the members with external feedback and workshops on topics meeting the group’s needs. For example, Prof. Gabriele Cappai’s workshop on empirical methods was of tremendous benefit for everyone.

The informal meetings are meant to be a forum of professional and personal exchange, support and cooperation. Joint writing projects are determined, best practices during the dissertation phase discussed and stories of cultural practices shared.

During the often lonely and doubtful phase of writing a dissertation the PhD Club offers a structured platform to receive specific skills to research and write on African legal studies, learn from colleagues and mentors, challenge your hitherto perspectives and be supported.
